Hypnotherapy - Frequently Asked Questions
Will I lose control during hypnotherapy?
No.
Clinical hypnotherapy involves guided relaxation and focused attention. You remain aware and in control throughout.
You cannot be made to do or say anything against your will.
Is this the same as stage hypnosis?
No.
Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is a structured therapeutic technique used to support behaviour change and emotional regulation.
The context, intention, and process are entirely different.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on:
-
The nature of your concern
-
How long it has been present
-
Your goals
-
Your engagement with strategies between sessions
Some people benefit from a short focused block of sessions, while others prefer longer structured support.
We will review progress regularly rather than commit to open-ended therapy.
Is CBT evidence-based?
Yes.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a widely researched and evidence-informed psychological approach. It focuses on identifying and changing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours.
Hypnotherapy, when used appropriately, can complement CBT by supporting relaxation, imagery work, and reinforcing therapeutic goals.
Can this help with anxiety or stress?
These approaches can support the management of anxiety, stress, sleep difficulties, and confidence-related concerns.
They are not a replacement for medical or psychiatric care where required. If additional support is needed, I will discuss this with you.
Do I need to prepare for sessions?
No special preparation is required.
However, therapy works best when you are willing to engage actively, reflect between sessions, and practice agreed strategies.
What if I decide therapy isn’t right for me?
You are never committed to continue beyond the session you have booked.
Therapy is collaborative. If it does not feel like the right fit, we can discuss alternatives or appropriate referral options.
